When I was a teenager, a veteran of WWII worked for my uncle. In fact quite a few veterans of both WWII and Korea worked for my uncle. One of his employees had been a paratrooper and had been part of the aerial assault during the invasion of Sicily. He had the bad luck to be shot down by friendly fire. He said that one moment he was standing at the back door of a C-47 and the next he was lying in a hospital bed. They didn't have a fancy technical name for it back then, but the veteran definitely suffered from PTSD.
